KING’S Lynn’s big winter signing Chris Holder raced to a stunning win in the Darcy Ward Cup at North Brisbane.

Holder, the 2012 world champion, only dropped a point in his five qualifying rides to lead the field going into the semi-final.

But when he lined up in the final he failed to make the gate and was forced to work his way through the field with a brilliant move to beat Rohan Tungate, Speedway Grand Prix legend Jason Crump and Max Fricke.

Said Holder: “It was a great meeting and Darcy and I had a lot of fun.

“It’s so cool for me to win it. The final was hard because I didn’t quite make the start but I managed to come good and make my move.

“I’m so proud to win it for Darcy, I love that guy and it was a pleasure to be here.”

Ward started his career with Boston and King’s Lynn before moving to Poole where he won the top flight title and became one of the most entertaining riders in the world before seeing his career ended early in a crash in Poland.

Holder will make his Premiership debut for the Trucks R Us Stars when they face Coventry at the Adrian Flux Arena on April 5.
