STARS UP FOR THE CUP!

Sunday May 06, 2018
KING’S LYNN go up for the cup at Leicester on Monday (7.30).

It’s the first A47 derby of the season with the rivalry between the sides set to intensify as a semi-final spot is on the line.

The Lions have already had injury problems with Grand Prix star Martin Vaculik breaking his ankle at Swindon.

Lions’ boss Simon Stead opted to replace the Slovakian with former Stars’ favourite Kenneth Bjerre, who made an impressive start to his Leicester career scoring 12+1 on his debut against Rye House last week.

Leicester were then dealt a further blow when their skipper Danny King was injured whilst riding for Ipswich last Thursday which means he will miss the Bank Holiday fixture.

The Tru Plant Stars, meanwhile, will be back to full-strength against the Lions after Danish trio Niels-Kristian Iversen, Thomas Jorgensen and Kasper Andersen all missed the win against Swindon because of commitments in their homeland.

While new signing Michael Palm Toft makes a swift return to his former club Leicester after starting the season with the Lions before getting injured in the same incident as Vaculik, resulting in the Dane being replaced by Todd Kurtz.

Stars’ captain Robert Lambert will be looking to continue his magnificent form after scoring double figures in all of the clubs’ fixtures so far this season, including two maximums.

Team Manager Dale Allitt said: “There are no easy fixtures in this league and Leicester will be no different on Monday. This time of the year is always difficult for riders but the boys have bedded in really well and we have got a really good team spirit.

“The Paul Chapman and Sons Arena is another tough place to go and get a result but we have already shown against Swindon and Wolves what we are capable of. We just keep saying to the boys just take one meeting at a time.

“We have taken four points from two meetings against the reigning League Champions Swindon, so we have to take confidence from that and look to get a result at Leicester.”

LEICESTER: Kenneth Bjerre, Kyle Newman, Ricky Wells, Krystian Pieszczek, Hans Andersen, James Sarjeant, Todd Kurtz.

KING'S LYNN: Niels-Kristian Iversen, Michael Palm Toft, Ty Proctor, Thomas Jorgensen, Robert Lambert, Kasper Andersen, Lewis Kerr.
